The Landscape Painter
Oil on canvas 18" x 14" 2006 In my humble opinion, too many artists plagiarise real life. More worrying yet, many are actively encouraged by their teachers to do so. In this painting, a young landscape, profoundly disturbed by the lack of inspiration possessing those attempting to interpret him and his brothers onto canvas, decides to exact revenge. Painting only what is set before him (a human landscape of orange trees with smoke for foliage, darkened faces whose eyes incubate fly eggs, and lightbulb creatures grazing on nuclear waste), the landscape gives humanity a taste of what it is like to be so insipidly represented.
